The top seeds have made it through with relative ease on Day 1 of the 2016 12/u and 14/u Australian Grasscourt Championships being held at Next Generation Memorial Drive. In the 12s, [1] Lara Walker (QLD) defeated Mia Repac (NSW) in a tight match 6-4 6-2, whilst [1] Edward Vo (SA) took a comprehensive win over Marko Vanovac 6-2 6-1. In the 14s, [1] Annerly Poulos overcame Keona Mendis (VIC) and [1] Nikita Volonski defeated Alex Kevill 6-3 6-1.
Meanwhile, South Australia’s Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz, Meeka Marshall, Kai Tucker, Terry Karahalios, Sebastian Flock, David Wang, Maggie Pearce and Tiana Glazbrook have all progressed to the second round in front of a home crowd.
Five matches were suspended due to bad light, so day 2 will see first round singles matches completed, along with the second round and the beginning of the consolation with matches starting at 9:30 am.
