Day 6 has been another stunning day and a fitting finale for the 2016 12-and-under and 14-and-under Australian Grasscourt Championships.
In the 12-and-under boys, [1] Edward Vo (SA) took the first set comfortably six games to one against [2] Haru Sonton (QLD), but came up against a fighting opponent in the second set, finding himself down five games to one including two set points. Vo then steadied the ship to take the set to a tiebreak, eventually winning the second set and claiming the 12-and-under boys’ Australian Grasscourt championship.
The 14-and-under boys was a tight encounter. Stefan Storch (VIC) took the crucial break at 4-4 in the first set and then held serve to take the set 6-4. The second set saw [2] William Hann (WA) run away to a 3-0 lead, however Storch came back to win the set 6-4 and take the 14-and-under boys’ title.
Second seed Anastasia Berezov (NSW) had a relatively straightforward victory over seventh seed Talia Gibson (WA) to claim the 12-and-under girls’ title. In the upset of the day, third seed Crystal Mildwaters (WA) played a brilliant match to overcome top seed Annerly Poulos 6-1 6-3 and win the 14-and-under girls’ championship.
