Our esteemed Life Member Allan Fisher passed away peacefully on Tuesday 2nd August 2016. His funeral service was held on Tuesday 9th August at Enfield Memorial Park.
Allan joined the then Tennis Umpires SA division in 1988 as a line umpire and participated in local, Pro Tour, ATP Adelaide International and the Australian Open. After many years of line umpiring Allan decided to use his teaching skills and became a National evaluator of line umpires.
In outlining Allan’s officiating career it has a long history:
- Commenced in 1988 when his son became involved in tournaments
- In 1992 he retired from full time employment and devoted himself voluntarily to assist in thousands of hours of tournaments
- His expertise as a referee has included:
1. South Australian Hardcourt Tennis League tournaments
2. Lawn Tennis Association of South Australia tournaments
3. Tennis SA tournaments and events
4. Tennis Australia National tournaments here and interstate
5. International Tennis Federation tournaments - Allan was a National Evaluator from 1999 -2011
- Allan was secretary of TOASA for 8 years
- Allan was awarded the TOA Honour Badge in 2003 for 10 or more years of service
- He was Tennis SA Official of the year in 2006
- Chief referee for Tennis SA 2001-2006
- Allan was made a Life Member of Tennis Officials Australia in 2010
- Allan received his TOA 25 year service award in 2013
Allan was also an accomplished lawn bowler and played Division 1 for Clearview, Allan was well respected in tennis circles and had many friends in officiating and tournaments. He was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed. Sincere condolences to his wife Annette and family.
