Broadview edge out Seaside in thrilling form while Bolt returns to tennis for Glenlea

Senior State League – Results

Broadview and Seaside have fought out in thrilling form for round three of the men’s State League competition with Broadview coming away with a one game win after rubbers and sets were level. Asykal Azhar got Seaside off to a strong start with a straight sets win over Corey Decandia, setting up a 3-1 rubber lead to Seaside after the singles. Broadview needed a dominant doubles display to snatch the match and were able to do so winning both doubles in straight sets to clinch the tie.

Alex Bolt made his return to top level tennis when he took to the court for Glenlea in their win over Collingrove. Bolt didn’t have it all his own way with Collingrove opponent Jay Laginestra taking the first set before Bolt rallied to dominate the last two sets and take the match. The addition of Bolt to the Glenlea line up has made them super strong and the 5-1 rubber win over Collingrove is a warning sign to the competition.

Trinity Gardens and The Drive fought out a tight match with Trinity winning on games after rubbers and sets were even. The Drive’s young gun Stefan Norodom upset Trinity’s Li Tu at number one single however Trinity veteran Andrew Tavella was able to right the ship for Trinity with a strong singles win over Jonathon Norodom. Tavella and Tu then paired to clinch the tie with a straight sets doubles win over Stefan Norodom and Terry Karahalious at top double.

Kingswood had an impressive win over Tea Tree Gully with Kingswood young gun Sean Van Rensburg setting his team up with victory over Tyson Devine at top single. After the match was level at two rubbers all after the singles it was Kingswood who stepped up taking out both doubles to take a much needed 4-2 match win.

In the women’s State League competition Goodwood overcame Glenlea on games after rubbers and sets were level. Glenlea’s Olivia Ley had a strong win over Brooke Milner at top single. Nikki Milner won Goodwood’s only singles match for the day with her win over Alexandra Cannizzaro in straight sets. Goodwood were able to come from behind to take the match winning both doubles in straight sets to clinch the overall victory.

The Drive were far too strong for Trinity Gardens ladies with a resounding 6 -0 rubber win. Mel Clayton, Melissa Beadman, Alana Repanich and Michelle Leyden were all in strong form with singles wins over their Trinity Gardens opponents setting up the win.

In one of the biggest rivalries in the State League competition Kingswood proved too strong for Denman with an impressive 5 rubbers to 1 win. Denman’s Casey Jackson continued her impressive start to the season with a win over young gun Natasha Russel at top singles before Kingswood asserted their dominance with singles wins to Yasmin Glazbrook, Tianan Glazbrook and Georgia Palasis.

Seaside ladies dished out a comprehensive loss to Golden Grove with a 6 rubber to 0 win. Tahlia Van Der Eerden was in fine for with a singles win over Indi-Arna Morris while Seaside youngsters Maggie Pearce and Tully Richter both delivered impressive singles wins.
