Junior State League – Results
Round 4 of the Junior State League saw a one sided affair in the Boy’s competition with Goodwood defeating Glenunga and Coromandel Valley defeating Trinity Gardens six rubbers to none. Putting them both clear of the competition at one and two on the premiership ladder. Coromandel Valley will look to keep top spot next week when they travel to Goodwood for the Southern Showdown.
Tea Tree Gully ran away with their first win of the season against a strong Seaside team. Early singles rubbers were tightly contested between Tea Tree Gully’s Dale Nixon defeating Edward Vo 6-3 at one and Trinity Gardens Nikolai Dobrovolski defeating Brayden Doherty at two in a thriller 7-6. Tea Tree Gully Captain Bradley Smith extended the lead with a 6-1 win against Harrison Paton at number three. Tea Gully were then able to win rubber four and five giving them a four rubbers to two win.
Stirling continued their consistent form when they came up against a competitive Peake Gardens side. Stirling’s Justin Tscharke defeated Tom Downey 6-3 at number one while Stirling’s Jasper Benson also won for his team at number two 7-5. While Peake Gardens Seth Henderson gave his team hope when he defeated Noah Phillips at number three 6-4, Peake Gardens were unable to win any more matches handing Stirling the win with five rubbers to one and nine points added to the premiership ladder.
In similar fashion as the Boy’s, the Girl’s competition saw two, six rubber rubbers to none defeats with Goodwood defeating Trinity Gardens and Happy Valley defeating Seaside. Top placed Goodwood will meet second place Happy Valley next week in another Southern Showdown. Goodwood’s undefeated number one Nikki Milner will need to bring her best game when she comes up against Happy valley’s Heidi Evens who is also undefeated to this date.
In the battle of the Hills teams saw Hahndorf come up against Beaumont who came out firing winning the first three rubbers of the match with Annika Tobin defeating Madeline Hughes 6-4 at number one, Juliette Robinson winning at number two 6-2 and Hayley Riessen getting over the line defeating Jessica Klatt 7-6.
Hahndorf looked at a comeback and a potential upset winning rubber four and rubber five when Madeline Hughes and Jacqueline Smith took the top doubles 7-5 against Annika Tobin and Juliette Robinson. Beaumont was able to hold off a determined Hahndorf team winning four rubbers to two taking out rubber six 7-5.
