TennisFest has been launched in emphatic fashion today with the Australian Open trophies scaling the Commonwealth Bank RoofClimb at Adelaide Oval accompanied by The Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of Adelaide Martin Haese and Tennis SA CEO Steven Baldas.

TennisFest will be held at Memorial Drive, the home of tennis in South Australia, from Friday 18 November to Thursday 24 November 2016.

TennisFest will feature a total of 11 individual and team events, along with eight appearances from the Australian Open trophies showcasing the player pathway from participation to performance.

“I am thrilled to be the Official Ambassador for Tennis SA’s TennisFest,” said Mr Haese.

“It has been a delight to accompany the Australian Open trophies to the Commonwealth Bank RoofClimb today to officially launch TennisFest and this sets the tone for what is going to be an action packed weekend of tennis.”

Three new participation events, along with demonstration courts, showcase courts and an interactive zone have been added to TennisFest for 2016, further increasing the opportunities for the public to get involved.

The festival will start on Friday 18 November with the brand-new social tennis event Sets in the City. Expected to attract 100 participants, the event has been designed to encourage new and lapsed players to the sport with a fun and exciting atmosphere.

ANZ Tennis Hot Shots participants from across the state are being encouraged to participate in the Red Ball Rumble, an opportunity for parents to jump out on court alongside their children for an afternoon of doubles fun to be held as part of Super Sunday at Next Generation Memorial Drive on Sunday 20 November.

Participants will also have the opportunity to compete in the TennisFest Wheelchair Open on Sunday 20 November.

“We are very proud to be bringing Sets in the City, Red Ball Rumble and the TennisFest Wheelchair Open to the TennisFest schedule,” Baldas said.

“We are keen to see the development of the sport continue and TennisFest is a great way for us to showcase and provide opportunities for tennis lovers and players of all levels.”
