State League – Results
The Drive ladies have exacted some revenge from last season’s State League Grand Final loss by defeating 2016/17 Champions Glenlea by four rubbers to two. Melanie Clayton was too strong for Tayla Whitehouse while at top single while The Drives AJ Walters and Michelle Leyden also registered wins. Glenlea’s Sophia Fry was able to capture their only singles rubber with an impressive win over Alana Repanich.
Kingswood continued their impressive form with a four-two rubber win over Trinity Gardens. Kingswood number one Natasha Russell was too strong for Jovana Petrov which was then backed up with wins to teammates Tiana Glazbrook and Georgia Palasis that cemented the victory for Kingswood. Trinity Gardens Jieyi Chen won her teams only singles rubber with a win over Yasmin Glazbrook.
Seaside notched another dominant victory when they defeated Denman six – love. Seaside’s young foursome of Selina Turulja, Tahlia Van Der Eerden, Maggie Pearce and Tully Richter were all victorious and are in fine form ahead of the top of the table clash with The Drive this weekend.
Golden Grove had a much needed four – two rubber win over Goodwood with the return of number one Madison Bishop very timely. Bishop won a high standard match against Brooke Milner in straight sets to before teammates Indi-Arna Morris and Simeona Stakic both registered singles wins to clinch the victory for Golden Grove.
In the men’s competition it was Broadview who took out the Grand Final rematch with an impressive win over Collingrove. Nathan Eshmade, Marty Richards and Kurtis Wilson all registered singles win for Broadview to assert claim the win before the doubles were played. The match of the tie saw former US College players Matt Teivans outlast Corey Decandia in a three set thriller that Collingrove’s Teivans was able to win after nearly three hours on court.
Seaside were able to get past a competitive Tea Tree Gully with ATP ranked number one Mislav Bosnjak leading the charge with a strong win at top single over Tyson Devine. Asyskal Azhar and David Abfalter also notched up wins to move Seaside up the ladder in what is a very tight men’s competition.
The experience of Glenlea proved too strong for a young Drive side with former touring player and US College player Damian Farinola beating The Drive young gun Stefan Norodom to set the tone for his teammates. Stephen Clasholm and Simon Pascoe both had strong wins in their respective singles to get the points for Glenlea.
Kingswood continued their run with an upset victory over Trinity Gardens who were without regular number one Li Tu. Trinity’s Andrew Tavella stepped up to win the top singles with a win over Sam Gericke but unfortunately for Trinity singles wins to Kingswood Todd Mclean and Troy McNeil put them on the back foot. Gericke and Mclean then paired to defeated James Ma and Tavella to clinch the win for Kingswood.
