Junior State League – Results
The Junior State League competition has reached the half way mark of the regular season with seven rounds being completed. The gap between teams on the premiership tables continue to increase but still remains anyone’s season to win the title.
In the Boy’s competition Coromandel Valley overcame a Tea Tree Gully team who was undermanned with their top two players out for round 7. Coromandel Valley took the match six rubbers to none extending their lead on the premiership table and looking to be the season’s hot favourites still not losing a match this season. Goodwood who are hot on Coromandel’s tail trailing by six points followed in similar fashion when Goodwood defeated Peake Gardens six rubbers to none, only allowing them to walk away with 10 games.
Seaside came up against a strong finals contender in Stirling. Seasides number one Edward Vo kicked things off against Justin Tscharke, the match was tightly contested between the two with Edward walking away with the chocolates 6-4. Edward’s team mates followed his lead with Nikolai Dobrovolski, Nick Brown and Lachlan Brain all winning their respective matches. This sealed the match for Seaside giving them the four premiership points. Stirling didn’t allow Seaside to walk away with all ten points winning both doubles resulting in Seaside winning four rubbers to two and moving off the bottom of the ladder.
Glenunga who are trying to work their way back into the top four played against Trinity Garden’s who currently sit in third place on the premiership ladder. Glenunga’s number one and Captain took lead defeating Trinity Garden’s Callum Gale 6-4. This turned quickly for Glenunga when Trinity went to work winning the next three singles rubbers. Trinity Gardens Cooper Asquith was the determining factor when he defeated David Jung 7-6. Trinity closed it out winning the first doubles 6-4 giving Trinity Gardens the win four rubbers to two.
In the Girls competition Goodwood remain on top after defeating Hahndorf five rubbers to one. Goodwood were too strong for Hahndorf but in an upset Hahndorfs number one Kara Tscharke defeated an undefeated Nikki Milner 6-4.
Seaside travelled to Trinity Gardens with both teams battling back and forth for third and fourth place on the premiership ladder. Singles split after number one and two singles players played leaving it to the three and four. Trinity’s depth looked strong with Trinity Gardens number three Yasmin Bennet winning 6-3 and Trinity Gardens number four Meeka Marshall winning 6-0. Seaside’s Tully Richter and Caitlin Wyatt held on to number one doubles 6-4 to take it to the last rubber. Trinity were too strong in the end with Yasmin Bennett and Olivia Salvatore taking out the last rubber 6-3 and Handing Trinity Gardens a four rubbers to two win.
In the match of the week Happy valley played Beaumont at home. Heidi Evans and Cydney Crumbie who have been consistent at one and two took the first wins of the match giving Happy Valley a two rubber lead. Beaumont’s Annika Tobin and Breanna Carroll thought back winning both of their respective matches to draw the match at two rubbers all. Doubles ran in similar fashion with Heidi and Cydney from Happy Valley taking the top doubles and Annika and Breanna from Beaumont taking the bottom doubles. After splitting the rubbers at three all Happy valley were lucky to walk away with the win by eight games.
