With the preliminary player acceptance list now released, City of Onkaparinga locals will have the chance to rub shoulders with some of the world’s best tennis players when the City of Onkaparinga Tennis Challenger 2017 hits Happy Valley Tennis Club from 31 December to 8 January.
Local tennis fans will be able to see top 100 ranked players and up-and-coming tennis stars from around the world compete for $US 75,000 in prize money and valuable world ranking points.
While the on-court action will be the main event, organisers at Happy Valley Tennis Club have worked hard to coordinate a range of opportunities for the community to enjoy.
A 90-strong team of volunteers will look after the behind-the-scenes operations of the event, overseeing catering requirements as well as player, court and transport services. Children have also been given the opportunity to join the team, with around 50 young tennis fans set to hit the court as ballkids following weeks of intensive training. Registrations for both volunteers and ballkids are still open. For more information, please visit:

With tournament staff from around Australia, the officiating team will have a more international flavour with four chair umpires travelling from overseas for the event, joining a team of three Australians.
During the week local tennis clubs will be given the opportunity for players to take part in ANZ Tennis Hot Shots and Fitbit Cardio Tennis activations on centre court as a prelude to the main draw matches. Participants will also be treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the tournament.
Finals day on Sunday 8 January will commence with doubles at 11.00 am followed by the singles final.
“This event offers a fantastic opportunity for the local community to see world class tennis right in their backyard,” Happy Valley Tennis Club Event Manager Simon Longhurst said.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer the community such a diverse range of events and opportunities alongside the Challenger. After the success of the Futures level event in previous years, this is the ideal chance for locals to get involved in the third year of this Challenger event,” Longhurst added.
