Junior State League – Results

In Round 10, Teams competed hard to go into the mid-season break with a win under their belt. With teams not returning until January 27th it was important that teams gave themselves the opportunity to separate themselves from other teams on the premiership ladder.

Top of the ladder Coromandel Valley came up against second placed Goodwood in what was seen to be the biggest rivalry of the Southern Suburbs. Coromandel Valley was unable to fill a full team and had to forfeit two rubbers making it hard for them to win. Coromandel still won two rubbers but was unable to win going down four rubbers to two against Goodwood. Goodwood now only sit two points behind first place.

Third placed Trinity Gardens travelled to Stirling to hold their position on the ladder. In form Stirling Captain Justin Tscharke came up against Callum Gale who was able to get over the line defeating Justin 7-6. Trinity Gardens Luka Ilic and Noah Koeroessy followed the trend winning their respective singles. Stirling’s David Pienaar tried to keep his team in the hunt winning his single 7-6, unfortunately the team was unable to win both doubles resulting in a four rubbers to two defeat.

Tea Tree Gully’s opponents were Peake Gardens. Brayden Doherty stepped up to number one for Tea Tree Gully and led his team with a 6-4 victory over Tom Downey. Tea Tree Gully’s Bradley Smith and Connor Gibson got wins on the board. Tea Tree Gully Sitting with a three rubbers to one lead going into doubles they only needed one more rubber to win. Peak Gardens Pierce Hynes and Alex Haskell performed unbelievably well in the second doubles winning 6-0. Tea Tree Gully’s partnership of Brayden Doherty and Bradley Smith was too strong for Peake Gardens winning 6-4 and handing Tea Tree Gully victory four rubbers to two.

Glenunga performed very similar to Tea Tree Gully defeating their opponents Seaside four rubbers to two. Glenunga now sit in the top four going into the mid-season break.

In the Girls competition Goodwood played against Happy Valley. Goodwood was short a player forfeiting two rubbers, this did not stop the top of the ladder team from performing to their best ability with Goodwood winning four rubbers to two. In the battle of the best two performing singles players in Goodwoods Nikki Milner and Happy Valley’s Heidi Evans, Nikki came out on top in a nail biter winning 7-5. Goodwood still remain undefeated in the competition.

Hahndorf came up against a consistent Trinity Gardens, Hahndorf who were yet to still taste victory came to play. Hahndorf’s Kara Tscharke opened the match with a dominating 6-0 win against Trinity Gardens Yasmin Bennett. Trinity Gardens Hayley Waterman and Angela Galantomos beat the Hughes sisters at two and three. It was then tied up two rubbers all when Hahndorf’s Jacqueline Smith won at number four 6-1. Hahndorf being so close to victory, showed they wanted it more winning both doubles convincingly giving Hahndorf a much needed win going in to the mid-season break.

Seaside followed in the footsteps of Hahndorf when they came up against Beaumont. Beaumont’s number one Rhita Zhiltsova had a good win against Tully Richter 6-2 while Seasides number two Faith Pearson Mckenzie pipped AnnikaTobin 7-6. Beaumont’s Hayley Riessen held on at three winning 7-5. This resulted in Beumont’s last win for the night with Seaside showing their strength in doubles and Georgia Plunkett winning at four 6-1 handing Seaside a four rubber to two win which seemed to be the theme of round 10 for Junior State League.
