The Strathalbyn Tennis Club is set to host an Australian Money Tournament (AMT) for the first time from 20-23 January 2017. The silver level event is worth a total of $3000 in prizemoney and is part of the Australian Ranking Tournament calendar played across Australia.

Competitors from the age of 13 will take to the Strathalbyn courts to fight for valuable Australian Ranking points and prizemoney.

“Tennis SA are excited to be taking an Australian Money Tournament to Strathalbyn for the first time. This type of event bring lots of people into the region and provides local tennis players the opportunity to compete with some of the state’s best players,” Ty Allen, Tennis SA Tournaments and Competitions Manager said.

The AMT is in addition to the annual Australian Ranking Tournament run at the club over the past seven years and will complement the junior event nicely.

“The opportunity to host an Australian Money Tournament is a great opportunity for the club to showcase our great facilities to some of the best players in the state,” Strathalbyn Tennis Club President, Clive Rafferty said.

The event is expected to attract around 100 players, including top players from South Australia and interstate.

“Strathalbyn has some of the best regional tennis facilities in the state. It is fantastic to see that these great courts will be used for the Tennis SA Silver AMT in January.”

“This is the third highest Australian Money Tournament on the calendar and with 90% of the competitors expected to come from outside the Alexandrina region, it will be a big few days for the town,” Keith Parkes, City of Alexandrina Mayor said.

Entries are now open for the event online at tournaments.tennis.com.au with entries closing on Tuesday 10 January.
