31 January 2017 | Tennis SA

In May 2016, the Tennis SA Board endorsed Bill Cossey with a Life Membership of Tennis SA. It was with great pleasure that Tennis SA President, Kent Thiele was able to publically present and acknowledge Bill of this award at the 2017 WTC Legends’ Lunch held on Wednesday 11 January.

Bill is held in high regard by the SA tennis community, our commercial sponsors and Government partners for his contribution to the game and the South Australian community. His level-headed and fair approach, strong stakeholder management skills, adherence to ethical governance and wise counsel have always made him highly valued member of the tennis community.

Highlights of Bill’s contribution to Tennis in South Australia and Australia;

In June 2004, Mr Bill Cossey was made a Member of the Order of Australia for services to government and to the community.

Bill was President of Tennis SA for 10 years from 2005 to 2015. Before this time Bill acted as President for two years during the previous Tennis SA President’s (Dennis Dall) incapacity. As such Bill has been Tennis SA President and a Member Representative to Tennis Australia for nearly 12 years.

During his time as a director, Vice President and President, Bill has made a significant contribution to the game of tennis in South Australia and across the nation. This has included bringing our members closer together by harmonising relations with member associations and Tennis Australia, overseeing the launch of the WTC to replace the Australian Hardcourt Championships when this event was relocated to Brisbane and leading the implementation of the Member Affiliation model as a pilot for Australia.

Bill has also served at national level with one 3 year term as a Director on the Tennis Australia (TA) Board and an inaugural member of the TA Nominations committee.
