Brazillian number one seed Beatriz Haddad-Maia will take on 17 year old Czech Marketa Vondrousova in today’s singles final at the Honeycomb.Design Clare Valley Tennis International after both recorded impressive Semi Final victories today. Vondrousova, who has already won two singles titles in 2017 over powered French young gun Tessah Andrianjafitrimo 6-1 6-3 in commanding fashion.
Haddad-Maid bounced back strongly after Destanee Aiava took the first set 6-3 to take the second 6-1. The third set was a tense, high level battle with Haddad-Maia having four match points at 5-3 but was not able to finish Aiava who held firm under intense pressure. Aiava levelled the third set at 5-all and looked to have taken the momentum from Haddad-Maid before the Brazillian managed to regain control and take the third set 7-5 in front of a crowd of over 100 spectators who were on the edge of their seats.
For Aiava it was a tough loss however after winning the singles title in Perth last week and a Semi Final here in Clare she looks set for a fantastic 2017.
