The weather couldn’t have been any more perfect for Day 5 at the 2017 12/u and 14/u Australian Grasscourt Championships.
[1] Hana Sonton (QLD) defeated [4] Cassidy Mataia (QLD) 6-4 3-6 6-3 to make her way to the 12/u Girls final, where she will meet [2] Catherine Aulia (NSW) who defeated [3] Jessica-Jade Haylo (QLD) 6-4 6-1. The 12/u Boys final will be an all-South Australian affair with [7] Doni Gashi having taken a convincing 6-1 6-0 victory over Andre Filep (NSW) and [2] Edward Winter overcoming Oliver Molly (QLD) 6-0 6-2.
For the 14/u Girls, top seed Tina Smith (QLD) had a convincing win over [3] Taylah Lawless (NSW) 6-4 6-1, whilst [5] Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz (SA) had a tougher time against Lauren Nikoloski (WA), eventually taking the win 2-6 6-3 7-5. In the Boys, [4] Tai Leonard Sach (QLD) defeated Rahul Desai (NSW) 6-2 2-6 6-3 and [3] Cooper White (Vic) overcame [2] Philip Sekulic (QLD) 6-3 3-6 6-4 to make their way to the final.
The doubles finals took place late this afternoon. [1] Aulia/Sonton defeated [2] Haylo/Mataia in a hard fought match, 4-6 6-4 11-9 to win the 12/u Girls, whilst top seeds Jeremy Jin (NSW)/Owen Yu-Hao Lin (QLD) overcame Zachary Viiala/Kent Yamazaki (WA) 6-2 6-3 to win the 12/u Boys.
The all-South Australian 14/u finals were close matches with Jasmine Adams/Alana Repanich defeating [2] Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz/Maggie Pearce 6-4 6-2 and Terry Karahalios/Edward Vo claiming victory over Alex Carroll/Patrick Douglas 2-6 6-4 10-8.
Day 6 will be singles finals day, with matches starting at 9.00 am.
