Goodwood and Kingswood fought out a tight battle in round two of the Ladies State League season with Goodwood sneaking away with a tight win on sets after rubbers were locked at three all. Goodwood’s Tayla Whitehouse and Natasha Russell both proved too strong in their respective singles matches with straight set wins. Whitehouse and Russell combined to clinch the tie when they overcame Nikki Milner and Nicole Kraemer in straight sets.

Seaside proved too strong for Flagstaff Hill with a five rubber to one win. Seasides Selina Turulja came up against Jasmine Adams winning in straight sets. Seaside continued their dominance throughout the tie to highlight their position as competition favourites at this stage.

The Drive had an impressive win over Trinity Gardens by five rubbers to one. The Drives number one Mel Clayton got her team off to a good start with a straight sets win over Jieyi Chen, proving why Clayton is yet another hot favourite for this season Player of the Year. Trinity Gardens hit back with a strong win by Meeka Marshall at third single where she had a comfortable victory over Alana Repanich. Trinity Gardens did not hit the board following the third single with The Drive taking out straight set wins in the remaining rubbers.

In the Men’s competition Collingrove won a tight match over The Drive with the match being decided by one set after rubbers were three all. The Drives Stefan Norodom started off with a great win at top single when he took down Matt Teivans in two sets. Collingrove responded with singles wins to Oliver Douglas and Sam Holland-Smith. The match went down to the doubles where Collingroves Simon Bates and Sam Holland-Smith paired to beat Jonathan Norodom and Sean Swierk to take out a close tie.

Tea Tree Gully continued their impressive start to the season with another match being decided by one set after rubber were three all. Tea Tree Gully’s Lawrence Bataljin had a great win at top single over Sean Van Rensburg in straight sets before Kingswood hit back with Josh Laka having a three set win over Tyson Devine. Bataljin and Oliver Taylor then paired to clinch the tie with a straight sets win over Laka and Jayden Pacor.

Trinity Gardens proved too strong for Broadview, winning four rubbers to two. Trinity Gardens Andrew Tavella and Broadview’s Martin Richards had a high class match at second single with Tavella coming out on top 6-3 in the third. Trinity Gardens Li Tu outplayed Cory Decandia in the top singles before pairing up with Charlie Nicholas to seal a strong win for Trinity Gardens.

Glenlea recorded its first win when overcoming Seaside with a four rubbers to two victory. Glenlea’s number one Sam May beat fellow young gun David Abfalter in three sets. Seasides Terry Karahalios did his best defeating Ethan Lawson at fourth single to give his team a chance. However, Glenlea fought back to win top doubles and take out a much needed win after losing their first round match last week.
