26 October 2017 | Tennis SA

The 2017 SSA 12&U National Tennis Championships (Bruce Cup) was completed in sunny Shepparton on Saturday afternoon. Congratulations to the New South Wales team for going through the week undefeated to win the title.

Team SA finished 5th with wins against TAS, ACT and NT and losses against VIC, QLD, WA and NSW.

In the individual event held in conjunction with the teams event, congratulations to SA’s Andrea Kristo who was runner up in the girls event to Anja Nayar (QLD) 6-3 3-6 10-8.  The boys champion, Jett Leong (NT) defeated Zachary Viiala (WA) in the final 6-3 6-3.

Our team showed exemplary behaviour and sportsmanship on and off the court and in true Bruce Cup fashion, players made life long friends from other states.  Players continued the SA tradition of excellent doubles play and our showcased our famous ‘foot taps’! All players gave their all for the team with great spirit and enthusiasm.

Well done to School Sport Australia and School Sport Victoria for putting on a great event in Shepparton last week.

South Australia looks forward to hosting the 2018 Bruce Cup, on 20 – 27 October and welcoming all the states to SA.
