Marc Polmans (Vic) is the Renmark Paringa Council Men’s Tennis International champion, after taking out the title in Renmark on Sunday.
Polmans defeated Luke Saville (Cobdogla, SA) 6-1 6-4 to win the event in its first year.
“I think I played all around a good match. Luke came out of the blocks pretty well he broke me first game. I but was just able to hang in that first set and try to get more and more confident. I think overall it was really clean match and we both were playing some pretty good tennis out there,” said Polmans following his match.
“The town, the courts, everyone has been pretty involved in the tournament. It was a Futures tournament run really well I thought and hopefully next year I can come back and play again.”
This is Polmans’ second singles title for 2018, having won the Launceston ATP Challenger in February, and his seventh career ITF Futures title.
The doubles draw has also come to a conclusion with the final played late on Friday afternoon. The unseeded pairing of Jeremy Beale (Vic) and Thomas Fancutt (Qld) took the first set 6-3, before Dayne Kelly (Vic) and Gavin Van Peperzeel (Qld) took the second 7-6(5) to level it. Beale and Fancutt were crowned the champions, taking the match tiebreak 10-7.
It was a fitting finale for the week-long event which gave local tennis fans the opportunity to get up close to some of the world’s best players as they competed for US$25,000 in prize money and valuable world ranking points.
