Day 2 saw some epic battles take place at the 12/u and 14/u Australian Grasscourt Championships on another unseasonably warm day in Adelaide.
In the 12/u Boys, [1] Mudiwa Munyimani (Vic) defeated South Australia’s Angus Koeroessy 6-2 6-3 and [2] Jeremy Zhang (NSW) overcame Cian Ingles (WA) 6-4 6-3, whilst in the girls [1] Sarah Rokusec took a 6-0 6-1 victory over Ioanna Papastamouli (SA) and [2] Jessie Culley (WA) defeated Rebecca Le Leu (SA) 7-5 6-2.
In the 14/u Boys, top seed Haru Sonton (Qld) needed three hours and twelve minutes to defeat a truly determined opponent in South Australia’s Doni Gashi 4-6 7-6(4) 7-6(1), with [2] Edward Vo (SA) defeating Zachary Viiala (WA) 7-5 6-1. In the girls, [1] Taylah Lawless (NSW) defeated Erica Williams (SA) 6-1 6-3 and [2] Talia Gibson (WA) defeated Madison Schwarz (SA) 6-2 6-1.
South Australia’s Ralph Catipay, Edward Winter and Mia Tsoukalas have all made their way through to the quarter finals to be played on Thursday.
Day 3 will be doubles day, with first and second round matches to be completed, starting at 9.00 am.
