Day 3 was certainly not the nicest weather for tennis, but the first two rounds of doubles have been completed at the 2018 12/u and 14/u Australian Grasscourt Championships.
In the 12/u Boys Doubles, the top seeds Pavle Marinkov/Jeremy Zhang (NSW) were defeated by the South Australian pairing of David Reutlinger/Michael Smith 6-4 4-6 10-8 in the first round. Reutlinger/Smith then made their way through to the semi finals with a straight sets victory over George Anderson (Tas)/Toby Everard (Qld) 6-0 6-2.
In the girls, the top seeds [1] Jessie Culley/Taylah Preston (WA) and [2] Sienna Leeson/Ashlee Narker (NSW) made their way through the first two rounds with convincing straight sets victories.
In the 14/u Boys Doubles, South Australia’s former 12/u Australian Grasscourt Singles Champions Edward Vo and Edward Winter have paired up as the first seeds. They were pushed to their limits in their first match, eventually defeating Lachlan Rook (NSW)/Charlie Vinen (Vic) 7-6 (4) 4-6 10-6, before making their way through the quarterfinals with a straight sets victory.
In the 12/u Girls, top seeds Emily Ioannou (Vic)/Taylah Lawless (NSW) made their way through their first match comfortably against Eva Lozitskaya/Tia Vuk-Luboya (NSW) 7-5 6-0, but were defeated in the quarterfinals by Shanelle Iaconi (WA)/Cassidy Mataia (Qld) 7-5 7-5, while second seeds Talia Gibson (WA)/Jessica-Jade Haylo (Qld) made their way through to the semifinals dropping just five games in their first two matches.
Day 4 will see South Australia’s Winter, Vo, Ralph Catipay and Mia Tsoukalas all take part in main draw singles quarterfinals with matches starting at 9.00 am, followed by main draw doubles semifinals from 1.00 pm.
