On Friday the 12th of October saw the 1st round of the Junior State League competition with the Boy’s and Girl’s playing super rounds at Millswood Tennis Centre and Peake Gardens Riverside Tennis Club.

Trinity Titans got off to a strong start knocking off defending champions Coromandel Valley 5 sets to 1 with number 1 Callum Gale leading the way with an impressive 9-1 win over Patrick Douglas.

Seacliff made their intentions shown early with a 5 sets to 1 win over Pembroke with overseas pick up Nicholas Turtl leading the way with a close 9-6 win over Terry Karahalios.

Glenlea made a statement early on with a 6 sets 0 convincing win over new comers West Lakes. It was a strong team effort and Glenlea already look like one of the teams to beat this coming season.

The match of the round though was between Tea Tree Gully and Hahndorf with the match being tied at 3 sets all, but Hahndorf just edging by with a 40 games to 37 win. The difference being the fourth singles with a close 9-8 set going to Tea Tree Gully but giving Hahndorf some important games to take the win.

The Junior State League Girl’s were involved in a yoga session before they kicked off their season. All thanks to Statewide Super who have sponsored the Junior State League Girl’s competition, which will give them an opportunity to be involved in wellness activities and personal development opportunities throughout the season.

All 3 games were convincing wins to Pembroke, Seacliff and Seaside all winnings 6 sets to 0. The Pembroke team showed why they are the team to beat with Amber Marshall and Meeka Marshall leading the way with 9-0 wins in their respective singles.

All teams return back to their own venues with round 2 kicking off this Friday October 19 at 6:30pm.
