Australian tennis legend, John Fitzgerald joined 110 students from 11 schools for the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots School State Final at Memorial Drive earlier today.

Cobdogla Primary School (Cobdogla, SA) and Prince Alfred College (Kent Town, SA) were named the 2018 ANZ Tennis Hot Shots South Australian school state champions, after winning their respective round robin pools at Adelaide’s Memorial Drive Tennis Centre.

Cobdogla Primary School and Prince Alfred College competed against nine primary schools from around South Australia, including Eastern Fleurieu School (Strathalbyn), Grange Primary School (Grange), Naracoorte Primary School (Naracoorte), St Catherine’s School (Stirling), St Columba College (Andrews Farm), St Teresa’s School (Brighton), Torrens Valley Christian School (Hope Valley), Trinity College (Gawler) and Woodcroft Primary School (Morphett Vale).

Today’s event is the culmination of 22 ANZ Tennis Hot Shots School Competitions held around the state throughout 2018, with today’s winners to receive a World Tennis Challenge experience in January.

ANZ Tennis Hot Shots School Competitions encourage participation, provide a positive experience playing tennis, grow friendships and give students the opportunity to represent their school in a team environment.

Tennis SA CEO Steven Baldas congratulated all involved in the state final.

“We congratulate Cobdogla Primary School, Prince Alfred College and each of the schools, teachers and parents involved in today’s ANZ Tennis Hot Shots School State Final,” Baldas said.

“These events provide school children with a fantastic introduction to our ANZ Tennis Hot Shots program, utilising smaller courts, lighter racquets and low compression tennis balls.

“We look forward to seeing Cobdogla and Prince Alfred College at the World Tennis Challenge in January.”
