After two weeks of Tennis at the Australian Open, Junior State League recommenced its season on Friday 1 February with the boy’s playing a super round at Peake Gardens Tennis Club and the girl’s playing at home and away venues.

In the boys competition Pembroke came up against Trinity Titans. It was an important match up with Pembroke and Trinity sitting third and fourth respectively, with both teams trying to secure a spot in the finals.

Pembroke’s number one Ben Cahill won a close singles against Luka Ilic 9-7 to give his team an edge early. Trinity Titans Dylan Truong hit back with a 9-6 win over Pembroke’s Antonio Kristo to tie it up one rubber each.

Pembroke came back strong winning the two remaining singles 9-2 and 9-6, they then secured both doubles to give their team a convincing five rubbers to one win over one of the most consistent teams in the competition.

Top of the table Seacliff played West Lakes, the Seacliff team proved too strong with a five rubbers to one win. Seacliff’s Noah Koeroessy and Lachlan Brain kept their strong season going with 9-2 wins.

West Lakes Deyan Sarac had another good win this time over Seacliff’s Anthony Wu, Deyan has been West Lakes stand out player throughout this season.

Second on the table Coromandel Valley came up against Tea Tree Gully. Tea Tree Gully’s Alex Carroll was back in the team and had a convincing win over Luke Mascione who had to move up to the number one spot, the final score being 9-3.

Coromandel Valley’s Timothy Ramey-Taylor who came up to fill in had a close win over Tea Tree Gully’s Nathan Catalano. With an undermanned Coromandel Valley team, Tea Tree Gully took out both doubles 6-3 and 6-1 to notch up a five rubbers to one win to keep their finals hopes alive.

Final hopefuls Glenlea came up against Hahndorf, unfortunately Hahndorf could only manage 3 players which meant they lost the fourth singles and bottom doubles before a ball was hit.

This didn’t stop Hahndorf’s Ralph Catipay winning 9-5 over Glenlea’s Toby Radford, but Glenlea’s Stefan Bianchet kept his stellar year going with another convincing 9-1 win over Hahndorf’s William Taylor to secure the win for Glenela. Overall Glenlea taking the win five rubbers to one.

In the Statewide Super girls competition Seaside hosted Collingrove at home with Seaside continuing a consistent season with a four rubbers to two win. S

easide were too strong in the singles winning the top three rubbers with Chloe and Madison Schwarz leading the way with 9-3 and 9-5 wins respectively. Chloe and Madison then sealed the win for Seaside with a 6-1 win in the doubles.

Peake Gardens came up against Pembroke with Pembroke’s Andrea Kristo moving up to play in the top singles. Andrea Kristo coming up on top against Peake Gardens Georgia Plunkett 9-3.

Pembroke’s Elim Yan kept her consistent season going with a convincing 9-3 win over Elizabeth Probyn Shingles.

Peake Gardens Poonyarrah Mckenzie got her team on the board with a close 9-8 victory over Pembroke’s Chiara Ninnis. Pembroke then sealed the match winning both doubles 6-3 and overall winning the match five rubbers to one, which keeps them second on the ladder.

Seacliff had a commanding six rubbers to zero win over Hahndorf. Seacliff’s Jasmine Adams and Cydney Crumbie both being pushed to tie breaks in their singles but both getting the win.

This win keeps them clear on top of the ladder and making them harder to catch with only three rounds to go in the regular season.
