Lulu Sun (SUI) opened her tournament with a win over Jasmine Adams (SA), while third seed Valentina Ivanov (NZL) defeated Eimi Friant (JPN), also in straight sets.
In the doubles, No.1 seeds Jennifer Elie (USA) and Alicia Smith (Qld) outlasted Natasha Russell (SA) and Tayla Whitehouse (SA) in a deciding match tiebreak.
Today wll see first round singles matches continue with Elie playing her first round singles match against Yasmina El Sayed (AUS), while main draw debutante Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz (SA) will take on Cyan Sun (Qld).
