Day 5 at the Port Pirie Come See Change Tennis International was completed with singles semifinalists now locked in.
No. 2 seed Lulu Sun (SUI) was too good for Olivia Symons (Vic), winning 6-2, 6-0. The seventeen year old has been in scintillating form this week, only dropping nine games in three matches. In the battle of two other 17-year-olds, Bojana Marinkov (NSW) proved too strong for Amber Marshall (SA), taking the win 6-4, 6-1.
The youngest player in the field, Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz (SA), was victorious against Natasha Russell (SA) in the closest match of the day, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. Meanwhile, number 1 seed Jennifer Elie (USA) continued on her winning way after a tight first set against Alexandra Osborne (NSW) 6-4, 6-1 .
In the doubles semifinals, Elie and Alicia Smith (Qld) were no match against Marshall and Valentina Ivanov (NZL), losing 2-6, 1-6, while earlier Patricia Boentgen (GER) and Lisa Mays (NSW) found an even easier passage to today’s final after Georgiana Ruhrig (Vic) and Jelena Stojanovic (WA) retired after trailing 2-5 in the first set.
Today is also singles semifinals day with Kempenaers-Pocz facing off against Sun before Elie takes on Marinkov.
