A role model Grand Slam champion in Ash Barty, one million tennis participants and record numbers in fan engagement – as the sport celebrates unprecedented highs, we are also taking tennis to the next level by realigning our local workforce.

Targeting increased access for players of all levels, as well as overall improvements in how the game is delivered and managed, investment into Tennis SA and other Member Associations has been significantly boosted.

In South Australia, our Participation Team will increase from six staff members to 11 and will be led by Matthew Fitzgerald. Matt will take on the role of Head of Tennis Development, after being a part of the Participation Team for the past two years as Participation Manager.

We are also pleased to announce the following appointments to our Participation Team:

Country South Australia

James Pick – Regional Tennis Manager
James has been actively working with various clubs across the region in the past twelve months whilst employed in the position of Participation Leader with Tennis SA. James will continue to build on and leverage his pre-existing relationships at the club and community level in his new role.

Country North West – North, Mid North, Yorke Peninsula, Eyre Peninsula, Spencer Gulf and Flinders Ranges

Giles Ellis – Club Development Officer 
Giles brings with him a wealth of experience as a STARCLUB field officer with a background in club development, local council, marketing, sponsorship and sales.  Giles is an active member of the wider Wallaroo sporting community; serving as President of the Kadina Basketball Club and committee member of the Kadina Football Club.

Scott King – School Development Coordinator 
Scott has valuable experience within the education sector across both primary and secondary schools in the greater Whyalla area. Scott also dedicates his time to coaching basketball at various junior levels in Whyalla. Scott’s passion for youth, alongside his employment in both the education and recreation industries will ensure positive tennis outcomes for students across the region.

Country South East – Adelaide Hills, Riverland, Mid Murray, Murray Mallee, South East and Kangaroo Island 

Hayley Allen – Club Development Officer 
Hayley will be joining us from the Office of Rebekha Sharkie MP, Federal Member for Mayo, whereby she has been employed as a Constituent Advisor and Grants Officer. Hayley has succeeded in developing and maintaining complex council, club and community relationships during this time.

Troy McNeil – School Development Coordinator 
Troy’s experience as a Tennis SA Participation Leader, playing and coaching tennis, as well as his teaching degree, will ensure that the game of tennis is first choice for all students in the region.

Metropolitan South Australia

Erin Haines – Regional Tennis Manager
Erin joins us from Bowls SA whereby she has been employed as the acting Chief Executive Officer since March 2019. Prior to this appointment, Erin possessed a range of operational, training, club development and marketing positions in the sport and recreation industry.

Metro North – North East, Eastern Districts, Barossa and Light, Gawler Districts and Torrens Valley 

Andrew Fitzgerald – Club Development Officer 
Andrew brings with him both sales, account management and operations experience from a series of roles with well-known brands including Virgin Australia, Foxtel and Salmat. Andrew also brings with him a genuine passion for tennis, having played competitively at the junior level and continues to play socially.

Shane Leathem – School Development Coordinator
A continuing School Development Coordinator, Shane will carry on with his work in schools across the Metro North region with a goal of increasing participation levels and transition of players from school to club.

Metro South – Southern Districts, Western Districts, Glenelg Districts, Metro Lawn, Tennis Seniors and Mid-Week Ladies 

Adrian Dezen – Club Development Officer
Adrian brings with him a wealth of sales, marketing and copywriting experience across media, education and hospitality industries.  Adrian is well known in the Adelaide tennis community, having been an active player and committee member at O’Halloran Hill Tennis Club.
