In round 8 of State League East Adelaide Kings captured their fifth consecutive victory following a 6 rubbers to 0 win over Glenlea. East Adelaide were dominant from the outset with Li Tu, Sean Van Rensburg, Benjamin Cahill and Alexander Despoja all winning their singles in a strong fashion. Glenlea’s luck didn’t improve as East Adelaide also won strongly in both doubles rubber to secure the victory and propel them to the top of the State League ladder.

Coromandel Valley were back on the winners list following a 4 rubbers to 2 win against The Drive. Coromandel started the better of the two sides with Oliver Douglas and Sam Sanderson winning tight singles matches. Kiichi Ishida struck back for The Drive before Patrick Douglas captured another singles match for Coromandel to give them a 3 rubbers to 1 lead leading into doubles. Despite The Drive capturing the first doubles in dominant fashion, Coromandel stayed strong winning the second doubles to secure the victory.

Broadview pushed into second place following their third successive win after their 5 rubbers to 1 win over Trinity Gardens. The match started evenly with Nathan Eshmade and Oliver Carroll capturing a singles match for Broadview and Trinity respectively. Broadview were able to pull away however following strong wins to Martin Richards and Nikola Stakic. Leading 3 rubbers to 1 Broadview were able to pull away winning both doubles including the second which went to a tie-break to secure the win and their position at second on the State League Ladder.

Seacliff responded well after their defeat last week with a 4 rubbers to 2 win over Tea Tree Gully. Tea Tree Gully had the early momentum following a tight win from Ashwin Vijyaragavan but strong wins from Sam Longhurst, Sam May and a 3 set win from Lachlan Brain put Seacliff in a dominant position heading into doubles. From there both sides were able to capture a doubles match each to ensure Seacliff were the victors.

In the State League Women’s competition, Glenlea won their 5th consecutive win defeating EAP 4 rubbers to 2. Glenlea captured the early momentum with Olivia Ley and Marie Bonnin winning strongly before EAP hit back through Juliette Robinson and Piper Khouri to level the match at 2 rubbers apiece leading into doubles. Glenlea were able to step it up when it mattered winning both doubles with the second going to a tie-break to ensure Glenlea remained second on the State League ladder.

The Drive won their second match in a row defeating Seaside 5 rubbers to 1. Melissa Beadman and Alana Repanich started well for The Drive winning the first two singles before Georgia Plunkett pulled a rubber back for Seaside. Sophia Fry was able to capture the final singles rubber for The Drive putting them in a dominant position heading into doubles. From there it was one-way traffic with The Drive capturing both doubles and win putting them into third on the State League Ladder.

In the match of the round top of the ladder Kingswood bounced back from their defeat last week with a narrow 3 game win over Denman. Cydney Crumbie and Jovana Petrov raced out of the blocks to give Kingswood a 2 rubbers to 0 lead before Jessica Glavas and Jacqui Scott won their singles matches to level the contest at 2 rubbers apiece. After Kingswood captured the first doubles match, Denman were able to win narrowly in the second, a win that would be in vein however as Kingswood claimed a close 3 game win. The narrow victory was enough to secure Kingswood’s position at the top of the State League Ladder and ensure they are the team beat this season.
