Alex Bolt lines up with the Australian Davis Cup team for the first time today when the home side take on Brazil in a qualifying tie at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre.
The five-man team are playing for a spot in the Davis Cup by Rakuten Madrid Finals in November.
Born in Murray Bridge, Bolt joins the list of South Australians including the likes of Ken McGregor, John Fitzgerald, Mark Woodforde, Thanasi Kokkinakis and current captain, Lleyton Hewitt, to have been part of Davis Cup history in Australia.
Bolt was presented with his Australian Davis Cup gold jacket and the number #112 earlier this week by fellow South Australian Darren Cahill.
“I was in Acapulco, just about to head to Indian Wells for the Challenger there and I got a call from Lleyton the night before I was due to board a flight saying they had picked me in the team,” Bolt said to the Adelaide Advertiser earlier this week.
“I wasn’t really sure what the call was going to be about, then he talked about the Davis Cup and I sort of knew where the conversation was going. I had to cop the flight (cost) to Indian Wells but I would do that any day of the week to be picked in the squad.”
Congratulations Alex, we are proud to add you to our South Australian Davis Cup honour board.
