On Saturday 14 November, a testimonial dinner was held for Angus Thomson OAM and Jan Walczak, two of SA’s most respected officials.

We were pleased that many people got to attend the dinner at the Caledonian Hotel, North Adelaide to celebrate the amazing work of both Angus and Jan.

They will be sorely missed and we thank them for their unwavering service to the game of tennis.

Angus Thomson OAM

  for 16 years: Court Supervisor, Referee and Educator
• Aged
  88 years old when worked for the last time as an official
• Tennis
  journey began a long time ago (I should have asked Angus exactly when, no-one
  else can verify the year!)
• Angus
  quickly became one of SA’s leading coaches and coached and Tournament Directed
  for many, many years
• Transitioned
  from coaching into officiating and maintained Tournament Directing until 2018
• A
  draws and scheduling guru and a natural at using Tournament Planner!

Jan Walczak

• Official for 19 years: Line Umpire, Court Supervisor, Educator, Mentor and ITF Referee
• Line Umpire at AO Finals including on Service Line
• Trained many officials in SA and NT
• Involved in tennis since 1953 including player, coach, school tennis coach/chaperone, internationally ranked on ITF seniors tour
• Extremely respected and liked by players ranging from junior beginners up to highly ranked professionals
• Regular joke teller to kids and adults alike
• After finishing line umpiring continued to Referee/officiate at schools events in a voluntary capacity
