The
inaugural South Australian Teams Challenge will be held in Adelaide
starting today. Tennis SA, in conjunction with West Lakes Tennis Club, will
host the brand new event from Monday 14 to Tuesday 15 December 2020.
The
South Australian Teams Challenge will see representative teams from Regional
South Australia and Metropolitan South Australia take on each other
in 13/u, 15/u and 17/u age groups. An individual event will utilise Universal Tennis Ratings (UTR) to provide further competitive play
opportunities for participants.
The
event is the next step in the pathway for regional players, with the top three
participants in each age group selected from their performance in the individual component of the State Foundation Cup held in Berri in
October. In the past, selection has seen players
earn the right to represent Regional South Australia at the national level,
however this was not possible in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic.

Dylan Hicks is excited to welcome players to Adelaide.
“We
are pleased to be hosting the inaugural South Australian Teams Challenge after
what has continued to be a difficult year,” Hicks
said.
“Whilst
we are disappointed that the COVID pandemic prevented our usual pathway to
represent the state nationally, this new event has presented a wonderful
opportunity to bring together players from around the state.
“We
look forward to welcoming the players and their families to West Lakes Tennis
Club and hope they enjoy what is sure to be a fantastic event.”
