The UTR Junior State Performance Championships for South Australia and the Northern Territory have come to a close with the champions crowned in Adelaide on Friday.
The new set
of tournaments have been held across seven Australian states and territories
from Saturday 5 to Tuesday 22 December, replacing the annual December Showdown
this year due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 and state border restrictions.
Junior
players have instead competed in their home states, including New South Wales,
Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia and the ACT
in 12/u, 14/u, 16/u and 18/u age groups.
Taylah Lessue and Jeffery Strydom claimed the 12-and-under championships, while Darwin’s Eva Harris and Michael Smith won the 14-and-under titles.
In the 16-and-under tournament, Mia Tsoukalas and Alexander Despoja claimed the titles, while Jasmine Adams and Stefan Bianchet took out the 18-and-under championships.
“Tennis SA is delighted to have hosted the UTR
Junior State Performance Championships in Adelaide this week,” Tennis SA
Tournaments Lead, Emily Smith said.
“This
tournament has offered a wonderful opportunity for our junior players and we
are pleased to have welcomed the players from the Northern Territory to our
state this week.
“Our
congratulations to all of the players who have been a part of the tournament
and our thanks once again to the team at West Lakes for hosting our events this
week.”
