Glenlea Tennis Club and East Adelaide Payneham Tennis Club have claimed their first Tennis SA Junior State League premierships following an action packed Friday evening at Next Generation Memorial Drive.
In the girls’ competition, Glenlea defeated Athelstone Tennis Club five rubbers to one.
“We came in with a few nerves, but we were able to really push through that and support each other,” Glenlea girls’ team captain, Mia Tsoukalas said.
“Athelstone played really well, it could have gone either way. They are young guns and I think they are going to do really well in the future.
“We’ve had some great team spirit at the club this year. Being able to get the win was really good for us and I think will help the club in the years to come.”
Meanwhile in the boys’ competition, East Adelaide Payneham took a four rubbers to two win over Seaside Tennis Club to claim the premiership.
“The atmosphere was crazy, as soon as I stepped on court I was a bit nervous because there were so many people watching,” East Adelaide Payneham boys’ team captain, Hemang Gaur said.
“The team did really well, we’ve had chemistry the whole season. We worked together really well in the doubles and we supported each other in the singles.
“This is my last season in juniors and EAP has never won before, so this win is amazing.”
Tennis SA Junior State League Coordinator Jacinta O’Loughlin was pleased to congratulate the winning sides.
“We are thrilled to congratulate the 2021/22 Tennis SA Junior State League champions, Glenlea and East Adelaide Payneham,” O’Loughlin said.
“This is the first time these clubs have won Junior State League premierships and they are thoroughly deserving of this wonderful result.
“We would like to thank all clubs, players and volunteers who have been a part of this season.”
