After 793 days, at 12:25 pm today, the Major Emergency Declaration in South Australia was revoked.
Today’s announcement is a significant milestone as we make our way out of the COVID-19 pandemic and means that there are no longer restrictions in place for our sport.
It’s safe to say that going back just over two years ago, none of us could have imagined what was ahead of us.
As a community we have worked together, and as a sport we have worked hard to ensure that everyone could continue to play.
Thank you to all clubs, associations and venues for your tireless efforts. Quite literally overnight, the workload for volunteers, committees, coaches and venue staff increased tenfold to keep up with an everchanging environment. Very quickly, you were forced to learn about COVID-Safe Plans, contact tracing and infection control (amongst many other things), and this work cannot be underestimated. I think I can speak on behalf of all participants around the state when I say that your efforts have been truly appreciated.
Our sincere thanks also to the teams at South Australia Police and SA Health for their support along the way.
We must not become complacent, this is by no means the end. COVID-19 is still prevalent in our community and we must take responsibility for protecting ourselves and those around us, but today does mark the end of our regular COVID-19 updates.
We thank you all for your support and understanding during what has been a very difficult time for us all.
