South Australia’s presence at the City of Playford Tennis International has received a boost with the inclusion of a well-known trio ahead of the tournament getting underway at Playford Tennis Centre tomorrow.
Alex Bolt and Edward Winter have been awarded wildcards for the men’s singles main draw, with Luke Saville to join the men’s doubles draw.
Bolt comes to Playford following a title-winning run at the Cairns ITF event earlier this month that saw his ranking halve to world No.738. Bolt has enjoyed great success at the City of Playford Tennis International in the past, most recently reaching the quarterfinals at the last event held in October 2019.
Eighteen-year-old Winter is set to make his ATP Challenger Tour main draw singles debut this week. Winter recently returned from a successful stint overseas and has participated in the Junior Championships at each of the four Grand Slams this year, including second round appearances at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
Saville returned to Australia earlier this week after competing in the United States in recent weeks and will take to the court in Playford alongside Jordan Thompson (NSW). A former doubles champion at the City of Playford Tennis International, Saville will be hoping for a repeat of his title run in early 2019.
Bolt, Winter and Saville join the tournament alongside Li Tu, who has now arrived home in Adelaide after claiming his maiden ATP Challenger Tour title last weekend in Seoul, South Korea taking him to a career high ranking of 190.
South Australians Petra Hule, Mia Tsoukalas, Kate Brzostek, Sarah Mildren, Kushi Venkatesh, Sukhi Venkatesh, Sean Van Rensburg, Henry Lamchinniah, Callum Gale and Stefan Bianchet, along with Saville, will take part in qualifying hoping to earn a place in their respective main draws.
