Glenlea Tennis Club has taken home their fourth consecutive women’s title, while Peake Gardens Riverside Tennis Club claimed their first in the men’s as the Tennis SA State League grand finals took place at The Drive on Sunday.

In the women’s competition, Glenlea raced to win the first three singles rubbers before Memorial Drive claimed the fourth, taking the match to the deciding doubles ties. Glenlea went on to win both doubles matches and claim the premiership.

“Everyone really dug deep today and Memorial Drive put up a good fight. It was great that it came down to the doubles and I am really happy we were able to get through,” Glenlea team captain, Mia Tsoukalas said.

“It’s great to win our fourth premiership in a row. We knew coming in to the season that we really wanted to get it done, but you never know what to expect. We had a really great group of girls this year, so to be able to do it all together was really good.

“It was so much fun to play here at The Drive. It was a really great event and the new facilities are awesome.”

In the men’s competition, Peake Gardens Riverside took an unassailable lead after the singles to defeat Trinity Gardens and claim the premiership, their first at State League level.

“It feels great to claim the first State League premiership for Peake Gardens,” Peake Gardens Riverside team captain, Sean Van Rensburg said.

“It’s something we’ve always wanted to do and we had plenty of support from the club to get to this position. We’ve done well to split the load across all of our players and we’ve really worked together to win.

“It was really cool to play here today, it’s great that so many people came out and supported really loudly, it felt really professional. It was great fun.”

Tennis SA Head of Tournaments, Competitions and Officiating Dylan Hicks was thrilled to congratulate the winning teams.

“We are very proud to congratulate our 2022-23 Tennis SA State League champions, Glenlea and Peake Gardens Riverside,” Hicks said.

“Continuing their dominance over the women’s competition, Glenlea take home their fourth premiership in a row after a truly outstanding season and for Peake Gardens Riverside, this marks their first premiership at State League level and we congratulate them on this significant achievement for their club.

“After several years of redevelopment works, it was fantastic to welcome the State League grand finals back to The Drive on Sunday.

“We would like to thank all clubs, players and volunteers who have been a part of this season.”
