Seacliff Tennis Club and Collingrove Tennis Club have claimed the 2022-23 Tennis SA Junior State League premierships on Friday evening at The Drive.
In the girls’ competition, Seacliff defeated Athelstone Tennis Club five rubbers to one to win their fourth Junior State League premiership.
“It was a pretty tough match up. We were coming into this just hoping to play our best and I think we were able to do that,” Seacliff girls’ team captain, Elim Yan said.
“It’s amazing. This is my last time playing juniors, so it feels great to win. I really hope the team can keep this going over the next few years.
“It’s been great to have everyone out here. This new facility is amazing and it’s been really cool to play here.”
Meanwhile in the boys’ competition, Collingrove took a four rubbers to two win over Tea Tree Gully Tennis Club to claim their first Junior State League premiership.
“It was a really good quality final. Everyone played really well, especially those who had never played in a final before. For them to step up to the occasion is really good to see,” Collingrove boys’ team captain, Jude Gale said.
“It means so much to win. This is our first time ever being in Junior State League, with a new team, it’s a really great sign for the future of Collingrove Tennis Club.
“It was unreal to play at The Drive with the amount of people there. Playing at The Drive is always good, but having umpires, linespeople, access to the Player Lounge, it’s just so cool. It makes it like we are professionals, but we are just playing club tennis! It was really special and enjoyable.”
Tennis SA Junior State League Coordinator Mitchell Reilly was pleased to congratulate the winning sides.
“We are thrilled to congratulate the 2022-23 Tennis SA Junior State League champions, Seacliff and Collingrove,” Reilly said.
“This is Seacliff’s fourth premiership on the girls side, while this is the first for Collingrove in the boys. Both teams are thoroughly deserving of this fantastic result.
“We would like to thank all clubs, players and volunteers who have been a part of this season.
“Our sincere thanks also to all who attended the Junior State League grand finals, as well as the Junior Awards Night held earlier in the evening. It was fantastic to see such a large crowd supporting our junior players.”
