15 May 2023 | Tennis SA

Following the launch of the National Indigenous Tennis Carnival by Tennis Australia’s First Nations Tennis Ambassador and former world No.1 Ash Barty in Newcastle (Mulubinba) NSW in April, we are excited to announce that two events will be held in South Australia later this month.

Approximately 120 students from Craigmore South Primary School, Elizabeth Grove Primary School, Elizabeth North Primary School, Elizabeth Vale Primary School, Playford Primary School and Salisbury North Primary School will come together to participate in tennis and cultural activities at Playford Tennis Centre on Thursday 25 May.

A community activation including social play and cultural activities will then be held at The Drive on Sunday 28 May to provide more opportunities for First Nations youth to play and engage with tennis.

The events are designed to give participants the chance to come and try the sport for the first time or further their skills, while learning about and celebrating First Nations culture.

Events are taking place in every state and territory around Australia, ahead of the 2023 National Indigenous Tennis Carnival to be held in Darwin, Northern Territory from 10-13 August 2023.

“The National Indigenous Tennis Carnival events form a key part of our pathway to ensure that tennis is accessible, brings communities together and provides more opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to participate and engage in our sport,” Tennis SA CEO, Debbie Sterrey said.

“We are looking forward to meeting students from local schools at Playford Tennis Centre on Thursday 25 May before we welcome the community to our first National Indigenous Tennis Carnival event at The Drive on Sunday 28 May.
