The State Foundation Cup returns to Berri this week. Tennis SA, in conjunction with the Berri Tennis Club, will host the event from Tuesday 3 to Friday 6 October 2023.
2023 marks the tenth year the event has been hosted by the Berri Tennis Club, with 168 players across 11, 13, 15 and 17/u age groups expected to take part in the four-day event.
The event will see representative teams from six country regions across the state take part in both a team competition and individual tournament. Players will be accompanied by two Tennis Australia qualified coaches from within their region.
The event has a strong focus on the development pathway for junior regional players, engaging them in competitive opportunities to prepare them for their future in tennis.
“It’s very exciting, it’s a great event for the kids and for the community too,” Berri Tennis Club President Phil Cresp said.
“I think it’s wonderful for tennis but also from a social perspective, getting the kids to stay together, it’s a great experience for them all.
“It’s pretty special for the club but also for the region too. It’s wonderful to have such an amazing group of volunteers not just involved in tennis, but in the community, who really band together to help make this event a success.”
“The State Foundation Cup forms a key part of the pathway for our regional players and coaches,” Tennis SA Tournaments and Competitions Manager Stephen Dawson said.
“This event brings together players from each of our six country regions, creating stronger links to the year-round opportunities on offer.
“This year marks the tenth edition of the State Foundation Cup being held in Berri. We sincerely thank the Berri Tennis Club for hosting the event and for their generous support over the years.”
