With sadness, the Tennis family is mourning the loss of Lynda Perkins on 28 September 2023 following a hard-fought battle with brain cancer.
Whilst Lynda took interest in a diverse range of sports throughout her lifetime, she didn’t take up tennis until the age of 40.
She began by taking coaching lessons with Craig Mousley at Golden Grove Tennis Club before she progressed to playing competition on Saturday afternoons. This led to Lynda being a part of several premiership winning teams in the North East Tennis Association competition.
An enthusiastic volunteer, Lynda held the positions of Secretary and Treasurer at Golden Grove Tennis Club for a combined 13 years. She sat on the social committee for many years and was a driving force behind club fundraisers, annual presentation nights and various social events.
Lynda spent time assisting in the canteen and supervising junior tennis on Saturday mornings, including many years after her daughter Jaimi had finished playing. Following her diagnosis, Lynda still found time to watch and support the club’s junior and senior matches.
Lynda was a tireless supporter of our sport. She will be fondly remembered in tennis circles for her positivity, her generosity and the kindness she demonstrated to all involved.
Lynda was farewelled on 20 October 2023 by hundreds of family and friends dressed in bright colours at Lynda’s request. We offer our sincere condolences to Jaimi, along with Lynda’s family and friends at this very difficult time.
These sentiments are shared with the Golden Grove Tennis Club whose thoughts are also with Lynda’s family and friends at this sad time.
