Glenlea Tennis Club has taken home their fifth consecutive women’s title, while Peake Gardens Riverside Tennis Club claimed back-to-back titles in the men’s as the Tennis SA State League grand finals took place at The Drive on Sunday.
In the women’s competition, Glenlea raced to win the first two singles rubbers before Memorial Drive claimed the third and fourth, taking the match to the deciding doubles ties. Glenlea went on to win the final doubles match in a thrilling tiebreak and claim the premiership by one set.
“We just won our fifth title in a row, which is crazy! We did really well this year and throughout the season.” Olivia Collins from the Glenlea Tennis Club.
“It was so tight, and we only won by a set! It was such a nice day and the crowds were amazing.”
In the men’s competition, Peake Gardens Riverside took an unstoppable lead after the singles to defeat Trinity Gardens and claim the premiership, in this State League grand final rematch.
“The boys got off to a flying start in the singles matches going 2-0 up pretty early.” Will Clifford from the Peake Gardens Tennis Club.
“It was amazing to get the job done, and go back-to-back. A big thank you to the officials and everyone for coming out. It was an electric atmosphere and made it a really special day for the boys.”
Tennis SA Head of Tournaments and Competitions Dylan Hicks was thrilled to congratulate the winning teams.
“We are very proud to congratulate our 2023-24 Tennis SA State League champions, Glenlea and Peake Gardens Riverside,” Hicks said.
“This sees Glenlea take home a fifth consecutive State League title in a nail biter against Memorial Drive. A special mention to the Peake Gardens Riverside Tennis Club who have claimed back-to-back Tennis SA State League titles against Trinity Gardens, who had an amazing season.”
