Day 3 at the City of Playford Tennis International has wrapped up with plenty of thrilling action on court.

In the men’s singles, top seed Rinky Hijikata (NSW) showed his resilience, overcoming a tough challenge from qualifier Emile Hudd (GBR) in two tiebreak sets, 7-6[4] 7-6[2]. South Australia’s own No.6 seed Li Tu delighted the home crowd with a strong 6-1 6-3 win over Saba Purtseladze (GEO), while fellow Aussies Philip Sekulic (Qld) and No.8 seed Philip Sekulic (Qld) also coming out on top.

Lucky loser Thomas Fancutt (Qld) battled past fellow Aussie Edward Winter (SA) 7-5 7-6[2], while Christian Langmo (USA) was victorious over Australia’s Pavle Marinkov (NSW) in a three-set thriller, 6-3 4-6 6-3. Japan’s Shintaro Imai and Masamichi Imamura both secured straight-set wins seeing them advance to the next round.

On the women’s side, Australia’s top performers continued to shine. No.1 seed Talia Gibson (WA) staged an impressive comeback to beat Japan’s Yuki Naito 6-7[4] 6-3 6-4. Taylah Preston (WA), Destanee Aiava (Vic), Alexandra Bozovic (NSW), Gabriella Da Silva Fick (NSW), and wild card Belle Thompson (Vic) also secured victories, ensuring a strong Aussie presence as the tournament progresses. Japan’s Erika Sema also advances to the next round following her defeat over qualifier Ya Yi Yang (TPE), with Mia Horvit (USA) also coming out on top after defeating Alicia Smith (Qld).

As the competition heats up all eyes will be on Day 4, with matches starting from 10:00am.
