It’s been an epic day in semifinals action at the City of Playford Tennis International, and we’re gearing up for some Centre Court showdowns for the Men’s and Women’s Singles Finals tomorrow.
We kicked off the morning with a Blind and Low Vision Exhibition match on Centre Court followed by the men’s doubles final.
The men’s doubles final saw Australian duo and No.2 seeds Blake Ellis (QLD) and Thomas Fancutt (QLD) fly to a 6-1 start in the first set against fellow Aussies Jake Delaney (NSW) and Jesse Delaney (NSW). As the match progressed the No.2 seeds claimed the win in a super tiebreaker 5-7 [10-5] to take home the men’s doubles title.
The women’s doubles showcased an all-Aussie showdown with Lizette Cabrera (QLD) and Taylah Preston (WA) taking on Alexandra Bozovic (NSW) and Petra Hule (SA) in the final. Ultimately, Alexandra Bozovic and Petra Hule claimed the doubles title winning in straight sets 6-4 6-3.
In the singles, Yuta Shimizu (JPN) secured his spot in the men’s singles final after defeating No.8 seed Marc Polmans (AUS) in straight sets 6-0 6-3. In a 2-hour thriller No.1 seed Rinky Hijikata (NSW) held on to defeat Masamichi Imamura (JPN) 5-7 6-4 6-4 to book his place in the men’s finals tomorrow.
The women’s semifinals saw both top seeded players Taylah Preston (WA) and Talia Gibson (WA) knocked out of the finals race. No.2 seed Taylah Preston was defeated by No.5 seed Himeno Sakatsume (JPN) 6-1 7-6[4] and will meet Australia’s No.3 seed Maddison Inglis (WA) in the final tomorrow. Maddison Inglis defeated top seed Talia Gibson in straight sets 6-4 6-4.
