On Thursday 14 November, a historic milestone for Tennis SA was reached as the team gathered for the largest-ever school carnival. The event brought together an impressive number of teams from across the Metro North District, creating a day filled with spirited competition, camaraderie, and celebration.
The carnival featured teams from a wide range of schools across South Australia, including St Columba, St Monica’s, St Martin’s, Xavier College, St Francis Xavier, St Augustine’s, St Francis of Assisi, Holy Family, and Catherine McAuley.
With over 400 students of all ages and skill levels in attendance, the carnival was a true celebration of tennis, fostering fun, friendship, and sportsmanship throughout the day.
“Today marks a monumental day for Tennis SA as we host our largest-ever school carnival at the Playford Tennis Centre.” Said Debbie Sterrey, Tennis SA CEO.
“With 50 teams, each comprising 8-10 players, from 10 Catholic schools across the Metro North District, this event is a true reflection of our commitment to growing the sport.
This carnival also represents the 50th event held in 2024 across Regional and Metro South Australia, with more still to come.
Delivering tennis to school-aged children is a key part of our strategic plan, and we’re particularly focused on ensuring a smooth transition from school to club tennis, helping these young players stay engaged with the sport and continue their tennis journey long after they leave the school courts.”
This event also marked the 50th carnival held this year across both Metro and Regional South Australia. The team have a few more carnivals to run this year, however this milestone underscores the tremendous growth of school-based tennis competitions across the state.
