15 October 2010 | Tennis Tasmania

Tennis Tasmania in partnership with the Launceston Tennis Academy participated in the Australian Sports Commission’s Active After School Communities Launceston Gala day Wednesday September 28th at Aurora Stadium. The day was promoting ASC new campaign ‘Join a club – Play for life’ . This campaign is the starting point for the MLC Tennis Hot Shots Program, learning to play tennis from the kids first tennis experience, joining a club and playing tennis for life. More than 200 kids from grade 3 – 6 and 6 local primary schools participated and had 15 minutes to taste tennis, many for the first time. With personal best challenges and progressions the kids in 15 minutes using modified, courts, racquets and balls went from learning ball and racquet drills to eventually having a rally with a class mate.

Any child in Launceston will have the opportunity to have a follow on session back at the Launceston Indoor Sports Arena for a MLC Tennis Hot Shot November 13th. Creating the opportunity for the kids to have another great taste and experience of tennis, while also being able to experience a tennis club environment.
