Tasmanian Richard Wynwood has claimed the Australian Senior Claycourt Championships in the 40 & Under age group. It is the second time in three years Wynwood has won the title at Dendy Park with this victory far more pleasing for him. “The event was far stronger than in 2009 so it was more gratifying to win” said Wynwood “the top seed was a strong player who I had played going back to juniors and with fellow Tasmanian Rohan Kerr in the field it was very strong”. Wynwood had tough matches throughout but believed his fitness played a key part in him winning. “I had a good fitness base which gave me confidence throughout the event, especially in the final” said Wynwood.

In other results Hobart player Martin Rojahn made the final of the 50 & Under age group. Rojahn was made to work hard for his position in the final with each of his three matches leading into it going to three sets. He defeated the second seed in the quarter finals before losing to Queenslander Mike Ford in the final.

Other players competing at the event at Dendy Park were David Tunbridge, Rohan Kerr and Terry McCarthy. For full tournament results click here.
