17 October 2012 | Tennis Tasmania

Tennis Tasmania presented Evonne Goolagong Cawley’s Indigenous Come and Try Tennis Day at the Glenorchy Tennis Club on Sunday 14 October 2012.  The day was held for young indigenous Tasmanian students ranging from the ages of 5 to 15 years with thirty young participants attending.

Evonne, her husband Roger Cawley, brother Ian Goolagong and their young assistant coaches Anzac, Kyah and Nathan coaching the children with their tennis and MLC Hot Shot skills.  The day involved the 5 to 9 year olds taking part in MLC Hot Shots activities with the young assistant coaches, whilst the older children did their best to impress Ian, Roger and Evonne with their tennis skills.

Two participants, Jesse Russell and Janaya Smith, were selected to attend an Indigenous Talent Camp in Victoria on 20th and 21st of October 2012.

Tennis Tasmania thanks the wonderful work of the Glenorchy Tennis Club with their delicious BBQ and hospitality shown to all involved. Evonne and Roger have promised to return in 2013.
