Congratulations to Max Byrne from Launceston, TAS for Winning the 80/over Singles and Doubles Titles at the 2013 Senior Australian Claycourts (Closed) being held at the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club. Bynre didn’t drop a set en route to his singles and doubles titles.

In hot conditions with the temperature reaching 37 degrees Byrne commented that his performance was good and peaked at the right end of the tournament. “I played a very good final in the singles defeating (2) Bert (Barwick) from NSW 6-3, 6-4. Conditions were tough, but I am very happy to win here in Kooyong” In the doubles the final was again the toughest match where Byrne and Neville Langford (QLD) defeated Bert Barwick and Colin Parker (SA) 6-2, 6-4. “In the doubles we had a scare after being up 5-1 in the second set. Bert and Colin came back but we were able to close it out in the end”. This completed the double for Byrne and capped off a great week of tennis.

In other results Andrew Youl (Launceston) came through the 45/over draw unseeded defeating 4th seed Anthony Campbell 6-3, 6-1. Youl dropped a tough fought semi final match against the number one in Australia and champion Chris O’Mara (QLD) 7-6, 6-3. Youl then returned to action in doubles where he and partner Mark Hodgson (QLD) lost in the final to the top seeded paid of Glenn Busby (VIC) and Chris O’Mara 6-0, 6-3. Lastly Rohan Kerr upset a seed before bowing out in the quarter finals of the 40/over singles to 3rd seeded Rhys Mcdougall (QLD) 6-2, 6-2
