After an outstanding weekend full of great play and sportsmanship the 2013 Devonport Junior Championships OJT White held at the Devonport Tennis Club is now in the books.

In the 12/U Girls singles (1) Jessica Fowler (St Helens) stormed through the preliminary rounds en route to a final win against unseeded Sophie Johnstone (Burnie). Fowler was in blistering form dropping a handful of games throughout the tournament. In the 14/U Girls singles (2) Erin Fazackerley (Hobart) upset (1) Jessica Chesterman (Hobart) in the final 6-4, 6-4. This impressive victory was Fazackerley’s first of 2013. Rounding out the girls events the 14/U Girls doubles between Chesterman/Fazackerley and Fowler/Maskell was not played due to fading light and rain.

The boys events were completely dominated by players from the North-West region claiming all completed singles and doubles events.  In the 12/U Boys singles (1) Ben Cawston (Ulverstone) continued on his recent form not dropping a set en route to a 6-2, 6-1 win in the final against (2) Ruben Mccormack (Launceston). Cawston then teamed with Robert Green (Ulverstone) to win the 12/U Boys Doubles defeating Tristan Lynch & Oscar Targett (Hobart) 6-3, 6-2. In the 14/U Boys Singles (4) Daniel Littler (Turners Beach) upset (1) Remy Lynch (Hobart) on his way to the final which he then overcame (2) Henry Ostler (Hobart) 6-4, 7-6(8). This was Daniel’s first OJT win of 2013. Rounding out the North-West sweep (1) Martyn Icke (Burnie) took out the 16/U Boys Singles defeating Sean Oosthuizen (Hobart) 6-3, 6-4. With the win Icke added yet another title to his growing list in 2013. Due to the fading weather and rain the 16/U Boys doubles final played between brothers Joab and Daniel Littler against Icke and Oosthuizen was not played.
