Imagine this…..The music is pumping, every student in the class is active, pedometers are rapidly clocking steps, the primal tribal energy is pulsing, shouts of constant peer encouragement abound…. it’s fun, social, loud and most of all a great workout!  CARDIO TENNIS IS HERE!!!!

Tennis Tasmania has secured its first partnership College for the new Cardio Tennis Secondary Schools (CTSS) Pilot.  Tennis Australia have opened limited places in a first ever Nationwide Cardio Tennis pilot in the school system.  The new pilot has some changes from a standard workout at a club with approximately in format which enables the P.E teacher or Coach to deliver a session of cardio tennis to a whole class without having to constantly ‘feed’ balls. The best thing about it is tennis skills are arbitrary.  It’s all about fun and action! The lessons have been modified from the “standard’ format to a “mass” format.

Head of P.E at SBSC in Devonport, Mr Steve Ryan welcomed the new program with open arms.  Not only does he plan to deliver it in all 5 of his Year 10 classes but also their sports science and physical recreation classes too! Steve says “I am happy to introduce an exciting new program like Cardio Tennis into our curriculum, it’s great to try something new as a teacher, we enjoy the variety and it will be a real benefit to our students”. This program also crosses over into other learning areas such as I.C.T and Maths through its fitness tracking perspectives.  N.W Cardio Tennis coach Shane Ruffels has offered his expertise and has teamed up with SBSC College to provide a pathway for further workouts in a standard format back at his local club. The pilot is running at various times throughout the rest of 2013.  For further information contact your Tasmanian Community Tennis Officer [email protected]
