With the conclusion of the Trevallyn Medibank Junior Development Series (MJDS) tournament this past weekend our MJDS series of events is now in the books.

The series started on a gorgeous summer’s day at the Geilston Bay Tennis Club and finished on a similarly beautiful spring day at the Trevallyn Tennis Club. Overall we had over 250 unique players playing over twenty events ranging from the Southernmost Tennis Club in Cygnet to the far North-West Burnie Tennis Club.

These MJDS tournaments placed a large emphasis on development and served as a crucial gateway to enhance young players in their first tournament experience. With the relaxed and social environment players were able to enjoy their tennis more whilst still gaining multiple competitive singles and doubles matches.

There were so many highlights during this series of events which was portrayed in the well received Medibank Healthy Attitude Awards. Overall we had an outstanding 51 Healthy Attitude nominations with some phenomenal stories ranging from fair play to staying behind after the tournaments conclusion to help the organisers clean up. These nominations were very well received from Medibank who awarded Jericho resident Victoria Fish (May) and New Norfolk native Sam Plunkett-Smith (September) as the monthly national winners of these highly regarded awards. For winning the award Fish and Plunkett-Smith received a medallion, gift card and go into the draw to win an all expenses paid trip for four to the 2014 Australian Open! Good luck Victoria and Sam!!

With the 2013 MJDS now completed we now look forward to the inaugural End of Year Championships which will take place at the Domain Tennis Centre in Hobart November 2-3. The top eight point’s earners over these MJDS events who have played a tournament in each of the three regions will partake in this carnival over two fantastic days.  The point’s race has now been updated so if you are on the list we will be in touch in the coming days to secure your place in this celebration.

We would like to personally thank Medibank for their financial contribution to assist host clubs with running these MJDS tournaments. We would also like to thank every single player, parent and tournament organiser for making this series of events such a tremendous success.

We eagerly await the MJDS End of Year Championships and look forward to seeing you all shortly.
