Congratulations to Sam Plunkett-Smith from New Norfolk for being selected by Medibank as the Australian monthly winner of the Healthy Attitude Awards. These awards are judged on the following criteria;

  • Positive attitude the players has towards the game
  • Commitment to their tennis and training
  • Positive behaviour the player has demonstrated that deserves to be recognised, and
  • Enthusiasm the player has for the sport

Sam was nominated after his touching story from the Domain Medibank Junior Development Series (MJDS) event. After claiming a hard fought win in his earlier match Sam was set to compete against Tim Auckland (Launceston). As the match wore on it became apparent Sam was carrying an injury and unable to move to his abilities. After going down to chat with Sam it was obvious he was in pain and unable to continue. After realising he was going to have to forfeit Sam was extremely upset for selfless reasons. Sam was upset about not fulfilling his commitment to Tim by completing the match and felt that by retiring he was taking the credit away from Tim’s stellar play. It was because of this remarkable act of sportsmanship and selfless attitude that he was awarded the national monthly winner of these fantastic Medibank awards.

For being selected as the September winner of these awards Sam was presented with a Medibank Healthy Attitude Award medallion and $50 EFTPOS gift card. Furthermore Sam goes into the grand prize draw of a family trip to the Australian Open alongside fellow Tasmanian Victoria Fish. This just shows that the exemplary behaviour and attitude of Tasmanian is really leading the way!

Great work Sam and keep up the healthy attitude!!
